Circinomucor

CIRCINOMUCOR v. Arx, 1982 [1984] (Sydowia 35:17); 9 spp. (Schipper, 1976—illus. as Mucor spp.).

Circinomucor produces sporangiophores that arise directly from the substrate, racemose or sympodial branching, and nonapophysate, columellate, globose sporangia that form small spores. The members of this genus are characterized by the formation of zygospores with a zygosporangium having stellate ornamentation and that is cinnamon-brown in color (von Arx, 1982).

Type species: C. circinelloides

Species of Circinomucor:
C. bainieri (B.S. Mehrotra & Baijal) von Arx, 1982 [1984] (Sydowia 35:18).
C. circinelloides (van Tieghem) von Arx, 1982 [1984] (Sydowia 35:18).
C. fuscus (Bainier) von Arx, 1982 [1984] (Sydowia 35:18).
C. griseaocyanus (Hagem) von Arx, 1982 [1984] (Sydowia 35:18).
C. janssenii (Lendner) von Arx, 1982 [1984] (Sydowia 35:18).
C. plumbeus (Bonorden) von Arx, 1982 [1984] (Sydowia 35:18).
C. racemosus (Fresenius) von Arx, 1982 [1984] (Sydowia 35:18).
C. sphaerosporus (Hagem) von Arx, 1982 [1984] (Sydowia 35:18).
C. zonatus (Mil’ko) von Arx, 1982 [1984] (Sydowia 35:18).

Circinomucor should probably be considered a synonym of Mucor (Schipper, 1976).
